Pilates is a unique system of exercises designed to improve core abdominal and pelvic strength, control and endurance. As such, it is particularly suited for rehabilitation and prevention of low back injuries by increasing range of movement throughout restricted areas of the body. Pilates undertakes the principle of conditioning and coordinating the body as a whole, rather than as individual body parts and muscle groups. Therefore, the body is able to move efficiently and in smooth, precise movements to minimise injury risk.
We offer a fully equipped Pilates studio offering four of the major equipment pieces of the Pilates repertoire Trapeze Table, Reformer, Combo Chair and Ladder Barrel, in addition to smaller pieces of equipment to aid and challenge the participant. All equipment pieces, including mats, required for any Pilates classes and sessions will be provided. Participation in Pilates can be in individual one-on-one sessions with a Pilates instructor/physiotherapist or in group. Group sessions are offered as either Pilates Mat classes with a maximum of 7 people per class, or as Group Equipment classes with a maximum of 4 people per class.
Group Equipment Class
Mat Class
All clients new to Pilates will undertake an initial consultation to determine abilities, weaknesses and any precautions which may need to be identified and addressed. Once determined, those participating in mat Pilates will commence in a 5 week beginner’s course and those participating in studio equipment Pilates will begin classes after 3 one-on-one sessions. This is to allow specification of the exercises chosen for the participant and to demonstrate and explain the exercises and its associated safety requirements.
All Pilates classes and individual sessions are available for rebate based upon your selected private health insurance.
